Spam Detection

What is Spam Detection?

The automated systems platforms use to identify and remove artificial engagement before it affects rankings or payouts.

Spam Detection explained

Spam detection is the layer that decides which engagement counts. It looks at timing patterns, account age and history, network origin, device fingerprints, listening duration, and the relationship between different metrics on the same track. A track with 40,000 plays and 3 comments looks very different from a track with 4,000 plays and 60 comments, and detection systems weigh those ratios. Removal is usually silent: counts are adjusted down and ranking weight is reduced without any notification. Because the systems are retroactive, engagement that survives the first day can still be stripped a week later.

Why Spam Detection matters for independent artists

Understanding Spam Detection helps you make better promotion decisions on SoundCloud and other streaming platforms. On Reposter Network, artists apply concepts like this every day when they trade real plays, likes and reposts with other musicians instead of buying fake engagement.
