Social Proof

What is Social Proof?
The signal that other people already value something, which makes a new listener more willing to give it a chance.
Social Proof explained
Social proof is the reason a track with a few thousand plays gets clicked more often than the same track with twelve. Listeners use visible engagement as a shortcut when deciding what to try. This is the honest argument behind buying engagement, and also where it breaks down: proof only works while it is believable. Large play counts with almost no likes or comments read as purchased to any experienced listener, and to curators and label scouts they are a reason to pass. Proof that comes from real engagement is slower to build and does not have that ceiling.
Why Social Proof matters for independent artists
Understanding Social Proof helps you make better promotion decisions on SoundCloud and other streaming platforms. On Reposter Network, artists apply concepts like this every day when they trade real plays, likes and reposts with other musicians instead of buying fake engagement.
