Self-Like
Category: Soundcloud
What is Self-Like?
Liking your own track from your own account, which is allowed but carries no ranking value.
Self-Like explained
A self-like is exactly what it sounds like: an artist pressing the heart on their own upload. SoundCloud permits it and it does place the track in your own likes collection, which some artists use as a simple way to keep their best work visible on their profile. What it does not do is influence discovery. Recommendation systems discount signals that come from the uploader, so a self-like is neutral for ranking. It becomes a problem only when it turns into a pattern of self-engagement across many secondary accounts, which is treated as artificial engagement rather than housekeeping.
Why Self-Like matters for independent artists
Understanding Self-Like helps you make better promotion decisions on SoundCloud and other streaming platforms. On Reposter Network, artists apply concepts like this every day when they trade real plays, likes and reposts with other musicians instead of buying fake engagement.
