Self-Promotion

Category: Music Marketing

What is Self-Promotion?

Promoting your own music through your own channels and communities, within the limits each platform sets.

Self-Promotion explained

Self-promotion covers everything an artist does to put their own work in front of listeners without paying a third party: posting a release, sharing it in relevant communities, reposting your own track to your followers, and answering questions where your music is relevant. Every platform allows it and most were built for it. The line that matters is frequency and relevance. Posting the same link into ten unrelated communities in one hour is spam, while sharing a new track with a community you actually participate in is normal behaviour. The practical test is whether the post would still make sense to a reader who is not you.

Why Self-Promotion matters for independent artists

Understanding Self-Promotion helps you make better promotion decisions on SoundCloud and other streaming platforms. On Reposter Network, artists apply concepts like this every day when they trade real plays, likes and reposts with other musicians instead of buying fake engagement.
