What is Dembow?

Dembow is both a rhythm pattern central to reggaeton and a Dominican genre that evolved from that rhythm into a distinct style.

Dembow explained

The dembow rhythm is reggaeton's rhythmic foundation—a syncopated pattern originally from Jamaican dancehall producer Shabba Ranks' song 'Dem Bow.' In the 2010s, 'dembow' also became a distinct Dominican genre featuring faster tempos, more aggressive production, and Dominican Spanish slang. Dominican dembow artists like El Alfa and Rochy RD have achieved massive success. Understanding dembow (both as rhythm and genre) is essential for Latin urban promotion. The Dominican market represents a distinct promotional ecosystem with its own influencers, radio stations, and content creators.

Why Dembow matters for independent artists

Understanding Dembow helps you make better promotion decisions on SoundCloud and other streaming platforms. On Reposter Network, artists apply concepts like this every day when they trade real plays, likes and reposts with other musicians instead of buying fake engagement.
