Audience Overlap
Category: Music Marketing
What is Audience Overlap?
The share of listeners two accounts have in common.
Audience Overlap explained
Audience overlap decides how much a repost or collaboration is actually worth. If two artists share ninety percent of their followers, a swap mostly reaches people who already know both. If they share five percent, the swap is close to a cold introduction and conversion is low. The productive middle is partial overlap: enough shared taste that the recommendation feels natural, enough difference that most of the audience is genuinely new. This is why genre-matched partners in adjacent scenes outperform both very similar and very distant ones.
Why Audience Overlap matters for independent artists
Understanding Audience Overlap helps you make better promotion decisions on SoundCloud and other streaming platforms. On Reposter Network, artists apply concepts like this every day when they trade real plays, likes and reposts with other musicians instead of buying fake engagement.
